okay srs question time

I have to read through a bunch of journal things (articles? papers?) for an essay this weekend, how do you guys normally go about it? I haven't used journals much before. I was thinking of maybe summarising each paper as I read it, would that be a waste of time?

Same here. Was quite disheartened at first but i will learn from it. Made some really silly mistakes.

what's disheartening is getting your lowest mark for the year in your favourite module :emo:

Edit: turns out I was worrying for nothing this time.

oh okay, that makes sense

The essay title is kind of vague though, so it may turn out the things I thought were relevant, are not. We'll see. I have to work on something else today.
Finally managed to write the essay that's been plaguing me for weeks. Had a fortnight extension placed on it and I've still managed to leave it until the last minute. Just missing my pseudocode now (for two super simple things) and then 300 more words for a conclusion and it's done
Tbh you usually endp with some irrelevant bits in notes but you definitely dont need the entire paper

all done for the semester and home tomorrow
I've been so busy lately! been keeping up with this thread when I'm on the bus etc. but never any time to reply.

And now I'm confused because there's some things I wanted to say from the last thread!

To DavidYorkshireFTW: Glad to have been to some use in your textbook problems. I'm doing Biochemistry, Introduction to Microbiology and Normal and Tumour Cells.. Next term will be building on these, doing MORE biochem (urgh), Microbes and Disease and Pathological Responses of Cells. I find biochem really quite difficult, but it's annoying because I know I can do it.

Also to snailsareslimy - I saw your triumph over you essay in the last thread. That was awesome. Just goes to show how we have no idea about our capabilities.

----

It was my last day today.. Not even excited because I'm going to be so busy revising for January exams, as there's quite a few things I still need to make sure I understand. How depressing do I sound haha?

Also found out I got an 80 in my Microbio presentation and 83 in my micro lab report. Makes up for all these bad thoughts and bad days. And at least I'm going out for 3 christmas meals next week.. so there will be some fun in the holidays.

Finally I was worrying about making friends not long ago.. but everything is good.. going out for a meal with course people I get on with, which is really nice because I normally don't attend such sociable things.

I got a 68 in my first assessed essay for this year which I'm really happy with  Just frustrating when you're only a couple of marks off that 1st but can't complain I suppose!

Celebrated the end of term last night by going out with some friends and then drove back home earlier today. I'm looking forward to these 4 weeks off because I'd reached the tired and de-motivated phase. Need some time to chill out at home because Uni life never stops! Having said that, I do have 5 exams and a large project due in January which seems to be a whole lot more than most of my other friends

So exam revision begins on Monday. Will be planning out my timetable this weekend.

Hope everyone has a lovely break!
Last day of term today. A week left till I can finally, finally go home! Must get as much revision done as I can possibly fit in between working this next week, which will hopefully make it easier for me when I get home.

What do you find most frightening about Biochem? For me it just seems like a different language. Like, once I've done LOTS of reading I understand the lectures and the concepts... then I look at some practice calculation questions or whatever and I'm like uhhhhmmmm I just do not know what they have written. I'm quite worried about the revision period but I keep telling myself I cannot say I'm going to fail when I haven't even started revising yet - I only have the right to say that when the exams start.

Aw that's fabulous. please let me know if the turkey lives up to all expectations and dreams... I am so excited I need some food porn comments to keep me tame.

People say christmas gets boring as you get older - I think it's waaaaay better because you can appreciate the food and markets and mulled wine etc etc. And you have different circles of friends so you get to have multiple meals.

Naw thankyou jelly! It's funny because nobody is so weird they aren't capable of making friends, but sometimes you think you are not worth liking.

That's a very good mark to kick off with! Congrats. How are you going about your timetable? I need to do one for Monday for my personal tutor but I have no idea where to start. I don't know what a reasonable amount of time studying/chilling is, you know?

yeah i feel like that sometimes
Oh biochem is ****ing horrid. I'm not doing any this year (get to pick all our modules thank ****) but last year it was horrendous. I aced the group coursework mostly because of my friend and then completely bombed the exam. Never again.
There's been no internet in my house for 2 days. FFS

Thank you very much!

I know what you mean about structuring the timetable. Plans change on a daily basis whilst I'm home so it's difficult to organize my time properly!
But I think what I'll do is focus on 2 of my modules per day - don't want to cram too much differing information in.
Maybe 2-3 1 hour slots in the morning because I find that's when I work best (I always get up early) and 2-3 more split between afternoon/evening depending on what I'm doing.
Hopefully that should be enough. I guess you could follow something similar, finding which time of the day you are most focused.
I'd also recommend using the Pomodoro timer app. You can split your revision into 45 minute sessions with 5 minute breaks and a 30 minute break every few you complete. It really worked well for me during my summer exams in 1st year
