Acadian and Francophone children will continue to have access to programs and materials in their first language with the announcement of interim funding for family resource centres.
MLA Gordon Wilson, on behalf of Community Services Minister Joanne Bernard, announced the $30,000 funding commitment in Church Point for the group that runs the centres, La Pirouette.
The funding will help the group continue to operate French-language family resource centres in Tusket, Church Point, Isle Madame and Halifax.
"We want to continue to ensure that Acadian and Francophone children across the province have the best possible start in life," said Michel Samson, Minister of Acadian Affairs.
La Pirouette is sponsored by le Centre provincial de ressources prescolaires.
"From a linguistic, cultural and identity perspective, it is crucial for the French-speaking community that the government takes into consideration the unique needs of this population," said Suzanne Saulnier, executive director of Centre provincial de ressources préscolaires. "I sincerely thank the Department of Community Services of Nova Scotia for recognizing these needs and offering us this contribution today."
