confused - applying for training contracts 2nd/3rd year?

I'm a 2nd year law student
I know I have to apply to training contracts at the end of my 2nd year, but if I am unsuccessful can I apply in my 3rd (final year) aswell?

I have been looking on law firm websites, however the information is not clear to me?

You should apply for Vac Schemes in your second-year, and training contracts in the ensuing summer following your second-year.

However, if you're unsuccessful in obtaining a TC in your first cycle, apply again as a third-year. Firms may not specify it, but you can keep applying for TCs in every cycle.
