First day as a healthcare asisstant

Hi all,

I'm a prospective medic on a gap year and am starting work as an HCA on a spinal ward next Thursday. Unfortunately my communication with HR has been limited over the xmas period and the ward sister is impossible to get hold of as she is always busy with patients. Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice regarding my first day? I have already been told I will be given scrubs until they can order me a uniform but I have been told nothing in terms of shoes, other stuff I might need, what to bring in terms of paperwork, whether I will have a locker for valuables, car parking because I haven't been given my permit yet etc.

HELP! haha

Thanks,

Sarah

To be honest you probably don't need to speak to the ward sister to get this information, if you call the ward and ask to speak to one of the HCAs they should be able to help you out
Shoes: wear some comfortable shoes with closed tops.
Paperwork: bring passport just in case
Parking: no idea.
Minimise amount of valuables that you take with you
Bring any paperwork they have sent you that needed to be completed

There is a medicine re-applicants thread where you can post for extra advice
