Yeah I think I got the same, is it ethnicity?

Uh, for predictions, it might be something like:

"Using the pre-release and your wider sociological knowledge, explain and evaluate the use of quantitative data/qualitative data/use of semi-structured interviews to research the importance of ethnicity within the children's playground?"

This is what I think, but the
"Using the pre-release and your wider sociological knowledge, explain and evaluate.." bit is always the same, unless the exam board decides to re-word the question differently this year

OMG I've got it as well I wasn't sure if mixed methods might come up as Holden doesn't just use one method? Also do you think the questions prior will be based on ethnic identities and the idea of socialisation, education and peer groups?

I'm self studying also sadly do you have the study guide book by collins; that should have some? Also what units are you doing as in what sections? i'm doing culture & identity unit one (AS) and Social Stratification unit four (A2) as I am resitting privately my exam as I've already done my A-Levels.

My teacher reckons it will be Using the pre-releaseand your wider sociological knowledge, explain and evaluate why a sociologistmight use quantitative data collection methods to research how childrenconstruct their ethnic identity. (52 Marks)

Plus she reckons the other questions will mirror this
8 marker - multcltaism, cultural diversity

Anyone got anything else on this?

I'm not sure since I'm self studying I am in the unknown, what do you think the 16 and 24 marker will be on? Any ideas!? Also does anyone know how we would structure the questions for the whole paper?

The 16 marker could be on how one of the agents of socialisation, socialise you into an ethnic identity but I think its risky predicting the other questions.
An 8 marker is a definition. you get 4 marks for a textbook definition and 4 marks for 2 exmples.
a 16 marker has the same format but you do it twice as it will ask for 2 ways
24 marker is a mini essay like G672 33 marker you only evaluate in this question and the 52 marker.
Hope this helps

My teacher suggests that the 16-24mark is supposedly based on ethnicity whereas the 8 mark can be on culture and the formation of culture.

Does anyone know how to structure questions for this exam please? The 8,16,24 and a 52 marker please?

My teacher thinks the question wouldn't ask about one method but whether the methods Holden uses are fit for his purpose.
He hasnt told us an outline yet but could someone list order in which you would answer a 52 MQ.
Thanks

Ah haven't thought about that, how would we answer that? Would we talk about the practicality of the methods used and ethics etc? Could you expand on what you mean by order? I'd assume its
Aim of study?
Approach used?
Method (advantages/disadvantages)
Alternative method that may have benefited/more suitable?

That's all I have so far...

Is anyone just focusing their revision on ethnic identities, socialisation (all the agents) and of course methods (particularly questionnaires, observations, sampling, secondary data)?
These are my guesses for the G671 summer 2014 exam (the top guess in the list is the question I think most likely to come up)-

Possible Questions

Define the concept of ethnicity. Illustrate your answer with examples. (pg 57)
Define the concept of multiculturalism. Illustrate your answer with examples. (pg 8)

Question 2 (16 marks)-
Outline and explain how any two agents of socialization contribute to the formation of age identity. (pg 71+72)
Outline and explain two ways in which young people are influenced by their peers. (pg 53+71)
Outline and explain how any two agents of socialization contribute to ethnic identity. (pgs 61-65)
Outline and explain two ways in which education socialises individuals. (pg 18+38)
Outline and explain two ways through which individuals experience social control. (pg 25+26)

Question 3 (24 marks)-
Explain and briefly evaluate the view that ethnicity is the most important source of an individual’s identity. (pg 56-65)
Explain and briefly evaluate the role of the peer group in creating and reinforcing ethnic identities. (pgs 56-65)
Explain and briefly evaluate the role of the family in creating and reinforcing ethnic identity. (pgs 56-65)
Explain and briefly evaluate the view that age is the most important source of an individual’s identity. (pgs 66-72)

Question 4 (52 marks)-

Using the pre-release material and your wider sociological knowledge, explain and evaluate the use of quantitative data collection methods in researching the importance of integrative play. (pgs 79-89)

Not sure about the age identities bit but pretty good especially with the pre-lease, thanks I'll have a look at that thread!

My teacher thinks mixed methods will come up for the 52 mark question

My teacher thinks quantitative methods will come up, she's an OCR examiner and also writes some of the OCR revision books. I've done a practice question on quantitative methods and used the pervert scale to answer it. If anyone wants a copy I can send it to them but I'm not sure how many marks it would get.
Reply 18
Will the other 3 questions always link in some way to the pre-release? For example: In this years pre-release Holden conducts his research in school playgrounds, so a possible question would be about how education socialised individuals?
Reply 19
Also, Quantitative methods came up last year so I'm not sure it will again.
