I just applied for the MA Social Anthropology and am living in the U.S., too.
Could you tell me when you applied and heard about the decision?
I sumbitted on Jan 7 and received offer on Jan 31, which is superfast if it is a US school. what do you focus on ?

Oh, that's pretty fast! I hope I'll be able to hear from them that quick.
I focus primarily on cultures in South Sudan, or East Africa in general.

Hi,

Could you please give me your opinion about the MSc International Politics programme? I know SOAS is great with its Area Studies courses, but I did not want to specialise in a region yet. I have already done another masters and have been working for five years.

Considering I will be paying the fee of an overseas student, wanted to know for sure that the course is worth the money and worth taking a year as career break.

Thanks!

thank you!! I submitted it in 28/1, and the offer was available in 13/2! Quite fast i suppose, judging from the other universities i applied to!
But you must note that my second referee submitted his letter in 12/2, so i guess the decision was available beforehand but they couldnt tell me due to the missing reference!

Have you applied yet?

I believe this is super fast too  Many people in here complained about the slow admission process. Perhaps it varies according to the time in which you apply.

Yes, I have applied a couple of days ago, but I am so excited. I hope they will accept me.

Got accepted to start an MA in Translation Theory and Practice (Chinese) in September

For anyone wondering, took about a month for them to get back to me, and I applied mid-Feb.

I know NOTHING about SOAS so would appreciate anyone's opinion ^^

Congratulations!!! This is a very good degree. In reply to your question, I suggest checking this forum for more info. Unfortunately, I know not any FB groups for SOAS students.

I got accepted to do an MMus in Ethnomusicology this September. I wasn't actually expecting the admission process to be as quick as it was. I emailed the music dept in December, thinking I would have till summer to make my application. They said I had to have it in by February and I had to record some pieces! So I quickly set to work and emailed my application off in the middle of Feb, I got accepted at the beginning of March!

I'm very excited about the course indeed and have already started the recommended reading for it!

This is how I ordered mine by paragraph:

- what I did from when I was very young to my teens which was relevant to the course, including my primary and secondary academic education
- what I did at uni for my BA and in my spare time which was relevant to the course
- why I want to do this course now and what inspired me
- what outside interests I have which are relevant to the course
- what I hope to achieve by doing the course and beyond it

Hope this helps.
Hello everyone, I am thinking about applying next year but my gpa is not stellar. How was yours? I wonder how much do they follow the stated minimums (2:1). Thanks!
I don't know other cases. but my gPA is slightly lower than 3.3, which is the minium requirement 2:1.

American doing a MA in History of Art and Archaeology. Anyone else living in Dinwiddy? Was hoping for Paul Robeson House. Is there a facebook group for 2014/2015 Postgraduates?
