Is technology ruin our sex lives?

As it has been pointed out, it has ruined my grammar. Please ignore the lack of "ing" in the question.

I love this title

Well technology has certainly made it easier to distribute pornography...

That's certainly something that doesn't help I'd say or it at least distorts the perception of sex.

I think it's definitely a factor. I don't think that porn is that big an issue because the majority understand that it's unrealistic... I hope they do anyway. Having smartphones and using them too much and at the wrong times is probably a big part of it.

Yes that's exactly what I think. It's a bit scary you can't go to a gig without seeing people recording it on phones or taking pictures of their food. It's a bit sad really.

Yeah. I went to see Vampire Weekend in Manchester in November and I was pretty close to the front but the girl directly in front of me kept whacking out her widescreen smart phone to record stuff which was frustrating. I'm sort of tall so I could still see but it was getting annoying so I moved as soon as I could. It's just a bit sad that a lot of people don't seem to be living in the moment. I understand taking a photo or two for memories or maybe even a short recording but a lot of people just go too far. I'm definitely not innocent when it comes to checking my phone before I go to sleep though which is probably a big factor in the less-sex thing for some people.

None of us are immune to it. I just got a smart phone, which I had avoided for years, as it was free. I realised I wasn't reading a book any longer during my journeys, just clicking to see what inane nonsense was being posted on Facebook.

Yeah, I realised I was doing the same thing. I would delete Facebook just that I use it to keep in touch with new friends I make on holiday :/ I've refused to get Twitter or Instagram or Vine but I'm probably worst with YouTube.

Technology certainly alters the manner in which humans interact with each other and the world in general. It would be inaccurate to suggest that it ruins anything though. Some experiences are enhanced and some are diminished depending on one's perspective. I think when you say "ruin", what you really mean is "change". If so, then the answer is yes, and it will continue to do so.

Yes I think you are right depending on the thing it is changing. I can not see how technology helps the intimate interactions though. Conversations are best face to face, gigs are better face to face and sex is better.... well face to whichever part of the body you prefer but not through the lens of a smart phone.

Technology allows us to talk to people we would not be able to usually but for the parts of life that are at hand, it only seems to get in the way.

Seems ironic how you typed 'ruin' when it should be 'ruined'

That's the whole point. He was parodying the title of the thread.

Yeah I know, it obviously proved my point before I'd even finished the title.

Considering that we seem to be more interested in correcting each other's grammar than the topic I'd say yes it is
I don't think so generally.

Most people who watch porn will still be able to have sex in the real world without any problem

A minority may not be able to perform in the real world if they have become infatuated with pornography though so it is a factor for some people.

It is a vague premise to say it is ruining our sex lives but I do think it affects the way we are intimate together and I don't just mean in relation to porn.

It is a case of not living in the moment, of being aware of the simple intimacies of everything from communication to enjoying a night's entertainment.

I'm certainly not a technophobe but I do believe technology should work for us, to enhance our lives, at the moment it seems it runs our lives and infects everything we do.
