University of Dundee

I am currently interested in studying at Dundee and have received my offers. I am curious as to whether Dundee has a strong engineering setup and whether the overall area of Dundee is good. Just the basics like what there is to do and whether it is a nice place to live etc. would help greatly before I decide where to go.
I like Dundee as a city and it's handy for getting to both Edinburgh and the highlands and Glenshee for skiing. Lots going on depending on your interests although it's not a pretty city like St Andrews. It's good for hockey, ice skating, wildlife (has an active naturalist group) cycling, running, has an arts centre, good pubs.
I've not applied for engineering there though because I want to do an MEng in Mech Eng and they don't offer that so I'm probably off to Strathclyde.
The problem with Dundee University is that it's in Dundee.
It's a "real" city though. I went to Cambridge for the day and it was like being in toytown. Too pretty and quaint and full of touristy shops. Bring out the ironmongers!
Dundee grows on you.
