If you leave in June you will owe a quarter if the grant because it was allocated for 12 months Sept/Oct to Sep/Oct.

I am absolutely certain.
You have been misinformed.
You don't reapply in September. I reapplied by the end of February each year!
It's why you get less in your last year. You finish in June that year and don't need any support in the summer, unlike earlier years.
