I'm not sure about that, quantum mechanics is one thing but politics is a whole new level of complex :P Hope you enjoy it

I must admit the whole flats idea appeals a lot as well. Get to know a few people really well, nice places and isn't the most expensive. Hahaa, seems we'll get on at the bar then!

Grizedale or County, and yourself?

haha, yours sounds like a whole new level of complex to me!I'm sure we'll both have a great time, not long away now is it!Where has this year gone already?!

That's what i was hoping too, great to get to know people and have kitchen parties! But like you said, not expensive which is always nice when you're a student. I'm sure we will, bring on freshers week

Ahh i did think about County myself, i just more than anything want to be in Bowland. I really like where it is on campus, the rooms looked nice and i'm a big sports nut so i really want to take part in the founders tournament. Do much sport yourself?

Hi guys

I have an unconditional for Maths/Study Abroad which I firmed about 12 months ago! I'm on a gap year at the moment, in the USA (but I'm from England). Just wanted to introduce myself, and hopefully get involved with this thread a bit! I think I'm going to apply for Bowland or Furness (standard self-catered - I've lived in boarding school for the last 8 months and couldn't care less about sharing a bathroom )

Anyone else? I'm so excited for Lancaster!

Hi! I've firmed a conditional for Maths  Though I'm thinking of applying for Grizedale or County  Close to looking at Furness though (On the visit day I heard the college bar is good for real ales so... )

In my personal opinion Trevor (Furness bar) isn't really anything special (although I suspect desdemondata will have something to say about that ) but a good bar for real ales would be Graduate Bar (Herdwick)

Are you on a gap year then? That it will be, get's better and better the more I hear about it. There's a real range of people going to which should be great.
Short to middle distance sprints, but I was the laziest swimmer ever, the whole healthy diet/strict regime did not work, surprised i got as far as i did... Was there meant to be a comma there or do they actually do water polo in kayaks?? Now here's where my knowledge falls short (I know nothing about sport). Do you play for a team?

Where are you thinking of doing your study abroad?

Hey guys,
i'm a first year at lancaster studying Mphys theoretical physics, living in County townhouse 94 and I am the social sec for the Mountaineering club. If you have any questions about anything at uni i can help, I know i had a lot.

I've kinda had a few gap years!haha but it's about time i got back to education and followed my dreams! That's what i was thinking, i can't wait to get there, i totally agree, can't wait to meet everyone...and get drunk!

haha oh dear! You should definitely try it again at uni though! There wasnt meant to be a comma, i've been informed they play it in kayaks, youtube it or something? Looks fun! They wear helmets though so must be rough! Not anymore for any teams, i was playing with Preston Grasshoppers (rugby) but i needed a nose operation so i've been out this season. Football i used to play with work and often in their team, i'm more of a defender or keeper and squash, just my friend and i every week, get a good game from him! Have you seen the list of societies?! Theres some awesome ones!

Wow, how've you filled the time if you don't mind me asking?
Now that sounds fantastic, I'm definitely trying that! That's a shame, are you picking it up again at uni? Squash is great for stress relief I must say..

Hi there,

I'll be studying environmental chemistry and I harbour an ambition to become involved in astrochemical research. Saw my dream PhD the other day - analysing the atmospheres of exoplanets within our solar system. My question to you is... is there a group or society for those who have extracurricular interests in astrophysics/chemistry, cosmology, astronomy etc?

Incidentally, I was looking at joining the Mountaineering Club. I most certainly want to take advantage of the climbing wall on campus.

Hi

There is a physics society that is not part of the student union LUSU and you can meet them in the freshers fair. This is the link for the full list of student union societies plus there will be some more not part of the union.

http://lusu.co.uk/get-involved/societies/our-activity-groups/

As for the mountaineering society we have weekly meetings followed by climbing down on the wall, there is also a bouldering team which have training. We have trips every weekend to either the lakes or peaks. plus every term there is a whole weekend trip away. Unfortunately our chancellor sir chris bonington is leaving this year so we are abseiling off bowland tower. we have a talk by dmm where the destructively tested the climbing gear, we have had a CAC event climbing the height of everest and next term we have Kendal mountain film fest here. and of course we have weekly socials that I and my other social sec organize, we have some brilliant ones lined up for freshers week.

hope that helps

Ahah thanks for letting me know - definitely makes me feel more confident about removing Furness from the list to whittle my options down to two  So you have to EARN the good stuff?

I know right, thats what i thought!I'll be coming along to that mate! Yeah thats the plan, i've sat out this season, but i feel great so i'm gonna start again, may try and get a few games in with my old team before coming to uni. We'll have to have a game when were stressed with essays!

What options have you managed to whittle it down to? Ehhh sometimes - an ale after an exam that you revised hard for definitely makes you feel like you've earned it, but I guess it depends in what context you mean "earn" and "the good stuff"
