Simple! I have got an A* every time and we've done at least 4 of them. All you have to do is make sure that you think below the surface, and them write your ideas down using P E E (that's Point, Evidence, Explanation). Firstly, in one sentence write down your point, then use the next sentence to find a quote in the text to back it up (make sure its not too long and is really relevant to your point) and then write a fairly deep and coherent explanation to go with it, making sure you explore different words and phrases in the quote. Make sure you do this for every point you make, and also include a good conclusion to link all your ideas together and to evaluate your points. A good guide to help you with this would be shmoop.com.
