You specialise in two subjects, one from list one and one from list two, these were the options this year:

Specialism 1(list 1) - SEN, Early years, Children's Literature, Science, MFL/EAL and Maths

Specialism 2(list 2) - Art and Design, Geography, Drama, ICT, P.E and R.E

The list varies each year, for example this year History and D&T weren't on the list.
Firmed MMU! I have all my qualifications already, and just passed my QTS skills. So I'm definitely attending in September (I only applied to MMU) hope to see some of you there

Hey sorry to bring up an old thread just wanted to ask you about accomodation, where would you recommend which isn't too expensive? I know the new building means that some accomodation is in birley but would you say it's ok to go elsewhere also And how do the lecturers treat you? Do they give feedback and are helpful or is it more independent work
sorry again

Hey no need to apologise! I am here to answer any of your questions so feel free to ask whatever you like  I don't really know anything about the accommodation available as I commute to university so sorry about that. You could make a post about it? The lecturers are all really friendly and approachable, you can even email them if you don't have time to meet them. Basically the whole year is split up into groups of 20 - 30 people with who you attend lessons with throughout the year. You don't have lectures, its more sitting in a classroom - like college tbh. In these sessions, the lecturers may set you tasks etc and readings to do but you don't get into any trouble if you don't do them haha, but they do help you if you require any help. You do have some whole year assemblies where they talk to you about assignment details etc.

The primary education course is split into 4 different areas:
Core - which is lessons in maths, english, science and computing
Foundation - which is lessons in foundation subjects eg history, art, drama etc
BBT - which is teaching studies where you learn about planning, behavior management etc,
Specialism - where you choose 2 subjects to specialise in.

You have sessions for each of these areas and you have 1 assignment for each area too, but 2 assignments for BBT so altogether in your first year you will have 5 assignments. These assignments are marked and you are given feedback.

Hope that all made sense haha, it will all become a lot clearer when you start in September and they explain it all  Feel free to ask any other questions

thankyou so much, what is your timetable like usually for the first year? And the course at manchester met uni is with recommended qts? Does this still mean you get it, just a bit confused because with other unis I've looked at it says with qts. And also do you do presentations in front of a group or is it mainly just like what you said in your post like a workshop? And how much of your grade is based on coursework or exams ( in other words how are you given a grade)
thankyouuuuu, I really appreciate it

Only the Department for Education can award QTS. Teacher Training providers will recommend you to the DfE as long as you have passed your skills tests and completed your course. Even then you will still have to complete your NQT year to be fully awarded QTS.
I've just finished my first year of primary education at MMU and the timetable is busy I must say. I was in uni almost 4 full days a week and you go into a school on placement every Friday. I had one day off every 2/3 weeks! You will probably start your day visits in October (every Friday usually) and you will have 3 blocks of placement - first one is two weeks and the other two are three weeks. Its a lot of work so be prepared to get you head down!

The timetable varies, its not the same every week, sometimes you will have a full week, sometimes you will have half days and full days, some times you will have 1 or two days off - it just varies A LOT! You get half terms off and 3 weeks off for christmas and easter.

I think someone has already answered your query about qts.

Yep you do do some presentations sometimes in groups, not to worry, they're usually quick and easy - also everyones really friendly  Its not like a workshop, more like a lesson with loads of group discussions - dont worry, everything will be clear once you start in September! Erm the first year, the grades dont count towards your final grade so im not to sure about that, but yeah grades are given through coursework and placement grades.

No worries

Hiya! Im looking to go to go to MMU next year, as i come from Devon its quite far away! Did you feel home sick at all? Also how is the course in terms of understanding everything fully? Do they help you at all or is it very much all independent?
Thanks in advance!!
