disconnected sets

Hey,

I haven`t studied sets in a donkey`s age -

could someone (I can`t get my head around it) please explain - in idoit terms please! - what exactly a disconnected set is?

(the stupider you assume I am the better)

thanks!

One that is not connected.

Then consider the definition of connectedness.

A set of itself is neither connected, nor disconnected. It's only in relation to the underlying topology that these terms become meaningful.
