There's been a long slide to the 'centre' for all parties since Blair - it's about capturing as many votes as will win an election, principles be damned. There will still be specific issues and policies which reflect a party's idealised leanings - like IDS's attack on the poor and unemployed - but generally all three major parties are trying to secure the same voters with, more or less, the same kinds of policies.
