i did it for 4 months before being forced to quit out of pure boredom.
all we did for the first 2 months was draw blind contours of everything in an attempt to sharpen our observation skills. then, we were left totally to our own devices, but were told what to do.. if you understand what i mean. if our teacher didn't like what we were doing, he would tell us what to do.
i also hear that he hasn't turned up for around 5 months, so lets hope you aren't going to king edwards stourbridge!
No I'm not. And by the sounds of it should be really quite pleased at that. Do you know of anyone in other colleges that enjoyed it. Quite worried now.
i really enjoyed it at school, but it's totally different at college. everything goes so much deeper and you will spend a long time developing one skill.
i'd wait and see who else replies, because obvioulsy my experience was terrible.
mmm yeah that sounds like my fine art course. to be honest. everyone hated it. Had nooo structure yet they wanted you to be very exact in what you did. made no sense. they were crap teachers.....
i have some new pictures....will upload some soon. they arent that interesting lol....but i like them.
The one of the sky is really nice, i like. And that spider, thats pretty wicked as u say...shame about the blurring though I think you need to get yourself a mint camera now lol....see what a difference itll make. Its rather suprising i must say, from what i do on a mini digi to my digi slr. Though you can still do some good work with compacts, SLRs just give you that more to play with lol!
Did you have your eyes closed when taking the first one?
The second one is ok, would be better if you cropped a bit off the bottom, drawing the attention more to the face, as at the moment the large area of white in the forgorund acts as the focal point.

i think i had the camera on the wrong setting, and i didn't want to get particularly close to the spider.. so. and i believe my boyfriend was hiding behind me too, so kept knocking me.
i thought the one of my cat is fine because his front paw isn't in focus, so you look straight at his face anyway, because that is in focus.
so thank you for your critisism, but it wasn't really needed. i know the first picture is blurry, so there is no need to point it out. give us a bit more credit than that thanks.

Quite nice. A better dynamic range would improve it a lot, but that's down to the camera. Also without the cables on the left and if there gull were slightly further from the wheel.

the sunlight one i didn't pull off? why not? that's a lovely shot.
and the one of my tom is just there for viewing pleasure, not to be a particularly interesting shot. it was taken with a webcam for a start.. screenshotting on msn. it's not meant to be good.
i really don't see why you have to analyze all my shots when you aren't even in this society.
And if you like them all and don't think they can be improved then that's great, and I guess someone might want to see a webcam snap of your tom.
I still don't quite inderstand this concept of deliberately taking poor quality pictures and then posting them here but that is up to you. And if you are just using this as a 'snapshot' gallery then thats cool too. I just figured that this soc was here for people to improve their photography.
tip! a photo that might initially be seen as pretty crappy can be improved, and may even work, if you give it an appropriate name (& some photoshop brushing)
I like the feel of that shot. Maybe crop the left hand side a bit to remove the top left corner?
Also I can't decide wether I like the rose there. I think probably it is a bit of a distraction, and would have been beter removed or with a shorter stem, placing it more on the right, if you see what I mean. However I kinda like it because it almost acts as some dark event overhanging the forlorn figure.
