I want to be a banker, and they all use PC. But I am a Mac fan?

Hi all,

I hope to be an analyst / associate / banker / investment banker when I am older, and they all use multi-screen PCs, which have a lot of specialist software that they use to track all of the markets and so on.....

But, I really like to use Mac. A lot. I have two Macs. Should I change to using a PC in the future because all of the Banking world does and I am losing my previously acquired PC skills fast? Or should I just continue on the my Mac because I like it?

Thanks for all of the help in advance!

Macs are aimed at consumers like you and they are rarely used by any business at all (design studios and the like excepted). Using their software will no doubt take a bit of getting used to anyway. And for serious banks they are probably running linux anyway (if they know what they are doing).

So, I could get away with using Mac for A levels and university and then change over to PC?

Thanks for the reply!

If you want to work in a markets orientated role (i.e a trader, broker, fund manager), then getting some experience with Bloomberg terminals (or similar), which pretty much all Universities have available to students will be helpful, but not at all essential (you're not expected to have any prior knowledge of how to use them). I can't imagine that being frequently using a Mac rather than a PC will be relevant in the slightest.

Working in Investment banking roles like M&A or CMOs will probably (?) require you to use Microsoft Office a lot (particularly Excel), but there will be a lot of specialist software, that regardless of being a Mac or PC user, you will have never encountered before, so it doesn't really matter.

Honestly, it's something that is completely not worth worrying about in the slightest.

That's great! Thanks! It's just that most of the guides and articles that I have read online about investment banking and such like say that your MS Office skills (mainly Excel and PPT) must be tip-top. But I do use the Apple iWork equivalents quite a lot and at the consumer level they are very similar. So it should be fine. Hopefully. Thanks a lot!
