Best halls 2014

Any second/third year students could explain which halls are best for what?

I've heard UP is the best for socials and events. Is this true?

And would people recommend catered/non catered

All the halls have buzzing social communities and events in my experience.

Catered vs non-catered is a bit more personal preference than anything. I was catered first year which has the benefit of not needing to worry about money and gives you more time to prepare fr societies or going out in the evening. You get a lot of food for your money, but it's not as good quality as cooking yourself. The downsides are that dinner time is fixed (5.30-7.00pm if I remember rightly) and it's more expensive than cooking yourself.
