The Student Room Group

is a 2.1 still possible?

Hey all,

I'm hoping to graduate with a 2.1 but I'm not sure if it will be possible anymore. Can anyone help me out..

My second year was worth 20% i got 64, and 62 (highest modules)

My third year is worth 80% and so far my marks have been:
40% (Forgot about about room change on deadline)
52%
62%

I have 120 credits per year. They were all single modules..

Could I still get a 2.1? or should I settle for a 2.2

Thanks
I need more information. Did you only have 2 modules in your first year and were they both worth half of your second year? How many more modules do you have left in 3rd year and, again, are they all worth the same?

First year didn't count for anything.

Second year counted for 20%, they took the two highest grades and put that towards the 20%, for me that was 64 and 62

Third year my modules are:

15 = 52%
15 = 62%
15 = 40%
15
15
30 (double module)
15

Okay, so in 2nd year you got an average of 63, which means it would contribute 12.6% (63*0.2) towards your final degree mark.

In 3rd year, the 15 credit modules are worth 12.5% and the 30 credit module is worth 25% (I think).

So far you've got an average of 51.3 (52+62+40 / 3), which would contribute 15.4% to your final grade (51.3 * 0.125 * 3*0.8). So you have a total of 28% (12.6 + 15.4). To get a 2.1, you need 32% more (60-28)

You have 3 modules left, worth 12.5% each and one module worth 25%, which means you have a total of 62.5% of your third year left, which is 50% of your degree (62.5 * 0.8).

So you need an average of 64% (32/50) in the rest of your modules to get a 2.1.

I hope I haven't complicated it too much! I was trying to walk you through my thinking process. I think it's possible for you to get a 2.1, but my calculations may be wrong so maybe you could check with someone on your course.

Good luck!

Ah, thanks for that!, that was really helpful too. 64% doesn't seem too hard to get, I think I can achieve that! I'm going to be working my ass off! lol

Thank you :smile:

I really hope I got the calculation right!

Work hard and get that 2.1! It will all be worth it! :smile:
A 2:1 is really difficult to get. On average you need to score somewhere above 70% in all your papers. Your close to that in a few papers for third year so just aim for an A, above 80% in some of the papers to make up for loss ground and there's your 2:1 :yy: !
