I am going to pretend that this thread does not exist

We don't need the rest of the working to get the value of B do we?

I put an equivalent sign in the OP so it can't have been the question or I would have typed it out saying express XYZ in partial fractions

You do not need the rest to work out B, no

But if you are going to ask for help then it helps to give us the full question so we do not get thrown when things do not work

Ok my mistake, is the question and answers correct for the question I've just given?

Ohh sorry I think I've confused everything :tongue:

I didn't post the original question, I posted part of the working out because I wanted to clarify how to work out B, I didn't think the rest of it would have mattered

Original question was:

9x427x32x3+26x+35(x2)2(3x+1) \frac{9x^4 - 27x^3 - 2x^3 + 26x +35}{(x-2)^2 (3x+1)}

We only need the part I posted in the OP to work out B right?

You would only have 3 partial fractions Ax2+B(x2)2+C3x+1 \frac{A}{x-2}+\frac{B}{(x-2)^2}+\frac{C}{3x+1} so I don't know where D or E come into it.

Oops Brian

You have Ax+B plus all of those fractions

Hence the C, D, and E

Then you didn't give us the original question!!

I did not give you a question at all

But Secret did and then you quoted it in the post with your error

Sorry I didn't realise I was quoting you.
