Is there a difference between being cute and hot?

Oops. I call my boyfriend cute all the time. I mean it as a compliment though, it sounds better than saying "you're so hot" in my opinion!

Could you explain why please? What's the difference, if there is any?

Cute > Hot

Disagree on the first girl but Ellen Page and Zooey Deschanel are both seriously hot. My taste very much revolves around cuteness anyway, so to me, cute = hot. Ellen Page is amazingly cute and therefore incredibly hot. I could have cried when she said she was a lesbian

Ellen page is a lesbian :frown:. Why. I always had a crush on her. She could have been my wify but because she is a lesbian i have to let her go. But it will be hard.

The girls i find hot i do not approach but the girls i find cute i have started approaching.

Hot girls are stuck up imo. Cute girls are more down to earth and tend to have a better personality.

Cute > Hot

I'd agree but I am also aware that I have been socialised as a red-blooded male to reject anything to demean my sexuality including in particular overtly emotional/romantic compliments, hence why I ask for the opinions of women too

Are you being sarcastic?
I'm confused as to whether cute is used in a puppyish sense or a boy next door sense

Oh God please don't buy into all this alpha crap. Nothing is more unattractive. Except perhaps a necrophilliac

It's not that, but I don't feel all that sexy when a girl goes 'aww you're so cute I just wanna cuddle you like a big baby' etc. :P

I call my boyfriend cute, I don't think I've ever called him hot. It just makes me cringe a little bit saying it.

Cute is a good thing, stop worrying!

Cute = good looking, classically attractive.
Hot = sexually appealing.

Obviously, there is a massive overlap.
Speaking from personal experience being called "cute" isn't a good thing if you want people to find you attractive. I've been called cute a few times in the past but girls didn't see me as a boyfriend. It depends on the girl and while it hasn't been a particularly good thing for me in the past, there's no set definition because it varies from girl to girl.
>Implying there is actually a universal code all women have and stick to without exception and that you're not overthinking the most insignificant things
If I like a guy I call him cute, and my friends talk about how cute guys are. Hot is only really used when you're in the "I want to bang" frame of mind.

I'm a guy

So cute=friendzone yes?

Personally I think you're taking one word way too seriously and I am perplexed as to why you need to analyse the meaning behind it. People use the word cute in many different ways, and you can never really know what someone truly means without asking them.

Also, the friendzone doesn't exist
I may be in the minority here, but I actually seem to find cute girls more attractive than hot girls.
I'm a guy and, whilst they're both compliments, they're a bit different to my understanding.

If I were to call a girl "hot", it would purely be in a superficial sense. Like ONS stuff.

"Cute", on the other hand, I'd use if the girl seemed like relationship-material.

I'd go as far as saying there's even two types of cute.

Like one being a nice polite & pleasant guy, and one being attractive and fresh faced.

Whereas i'd say if someone called you hot, they'd mean more rugged/filthy/wanna bang you.
