Tips for better numeracy? (numerical reasoning tests)

Anyone got any tips for achieving better numeracy? I have to sit some numerical reasoning tests and I am currently practicing via a question book. It's going okay but does anyone have any other tips?

(I also tried to play along with an episode of Countdown and failed miserably - is anyone any good at that?)
