I think that this will damage late bloomers ( those with OK GCSEs but not fantastic ones). It will also make GCSEs a lot more important. This will benefit all rounders, but to be honest those who would benefit are few and far between

This is awful - there's no way I would have got into the university I'm at today based on GCSE results. I got average GCSE results but once I got to AS Level I consistently got As. There's no way I could ever have gotten A's at GCSE in Maths or Physics (my weaknesses) so I would have ended up at a mediocre uni.
