I'm currently studying Sociology (my first year JUST finished (Yep, September to April is a year apparently!)) so if you want to ask anything, ask away!

How were the modules, which ones did you choose and were they as interesting as it sounds like The Holocaust, Genocide and Society? What's the lifestyle there like because im currently between Exeter and Durham

Hey do you know how many exams an stuff the course is in year one and what the Fch degree is like, how many hours a week and stuff I think I'd prefer essays over exams for sociology but I'm not bad at exams as m a levels are biology chemistry and sociology ??

My first year was about 8 hours a week with 2 exams. My second year is about the same but with only 1 exam, although it depends on your module choice for year 2

On this link it says the modules then the core ones are mostly the top ones for sociology and they say exams :/ I'm between bath and Exeter but bath isn't Russell group but is ranked higher as a uni and I wouldn't get an ensuite but that shouldn't influence my choice

Also can you do a placemen year on the course? Or flexibility to switch to another without taking a year out as most unis make you do

You shouldn't just base all your opinions om whether a uni is in the Russel group or not. It doesnt mean jack apart from they can afford to buy the title. Pick somewhere that feels right for you.

I wil need to check that link and get back to you on the other thing as Im on my phone right now

All of those modules are 2nd year. I chose modules with no exams, so only had the single core exam

Why don't you do a real degree? Like Law?

1) A lot of the time it doesnt matter nowadays what degree you do, its just a tool to use. Rather than USING an English degree for example to become a journalist, you can become a journalist with ANY degree. Law and Medicine are two examples where a specialised degree are needed, although most of the time nowadays its not what the degree is in, but rather that you simply have one.

2) Law is a pretty difficult course to get in to, some people may not be as smart as you, and if you want or need certification of thst, you have your A Levels. I only achived A,B,C and D in my A Levels and have met a lot of people at Exeter who will not talk to me because of this, but it doesnt mean I wont try my best.

3) Some people dont enjoy law. I know you were using it as an example of a "useful" degree, but you might just not find the "useful" degrees interesting! So why study them! University and being a scholar is about having a passion about a topic, not impressing mummy and daddy.

Well, I couldn't get into Exeter for Law either. That's why I choose UWE. For most people, choosing a prestigious degree is the most important thing and it's not simply impressing the parents, but impressing to yourself that you have what it takes.

I wanted to be a dentist and missed m offer, I'm not stupid and could pretty much do any degree I wanted with my results of A*AB and A at AS an I'm resitting the B. I was going to applying or biology book to because I its more academic and will push me but my heart isn't in it. I like sociology because it's interesting and I got full marks on almost every exam I did , it's a degree that allows you to go onto lots of different careers that people who do a specialised degree can access such as finance accounting marketing any business type of industry and I could do a law conversion of I decide a few years in I fancy law.
