A Level Coursework problems! Please respond, URGENT!!

In my History A2 coursework I have lied about my word count, and stated it was 4002 instead of 4040. The lied total(4002) is 2 words over so I'm expecting to lose 1 mark, but should I be worried about them checking if it's over by a larger amount? How do examiners check word count on a printed out essay? Do they check them often? Is it worth lying again in future..?
Honestly, 40 words over is nothing. I doubt they'll care  and I doubt they're going to notice anyway. It's not as if you're 1,000 words over!

They don't check in English lit, so I'd doubt they check in History. I thought you could go +/- 10% anyway?

Above poster is correct. You're allowed to be 10% over which means you could have up to 4,400 words so you're absolutely fine.
