Self-Catered or Catered?

Hello,
I just got my place confirmed at Exeter University but now I'm stuck as to choosing between catered or self-catered? I know a lot of people prefer self-catered but my brother took catered in his first year and I don't think it's such a bad idea... Any advice on which one to pick? Thanks!

I chose catered halls this year, it works out cheaper. I loved the daily fresh fruit supply at breakfast & dinner. There's a wide variety of food at breakfast especially. Check out the menu available from the website. Dinner however can be oily and bland. Yet I must admit I'm critical & a serious foodie. On occasions I've returned dishes that I felt were too salty or over cooked and requested another option. You can't expect full flavoured or spicy dishes as this won't suit everyone. The dining halls are very large this would suit you if you're particularly sociable, not the eat dinner in silence type. Beware of the set mealtimes. Will you wake up in time for breakfast? Replacement meals can be ordered in advance if you know you'll be busy e.g. In a lecture around dinner time. During mealtimes you're able to socialise with people you wouldn't otherwise see if you were in a 7 person self-catered flat for example. The arrangement of catered halls can also be slightly different. Lopes hall is similar to a boarding school, everyone has access to each floor and no one is confined to flats. I got to know lots of people as a result. No one really complains if you take food out of the dining hall to save for later. So midnight snacks are sorted!
I would definitely choose catered again
