The Student Room Group

18 yo girl to be deported & separated from her family

Yashika arrived in the UK along with her mother and brother in 2012 to escape abuse and danger. In that time, Yashika has proved herself a model student of Oasis Academy Hadley and valuable member of the Enfield community. Simply because she is now over 18 she is to be torn apart from her family in the UK and deported to Mauritius without even having the chance to complete her A-levels.

Yashika Bageerathi is being held at Yarl’s Wood detention centre

She has been told she will be imminently deported alone to a country where she has neither friends nor family.

This is against Article 8 of the Human Rights Act (respect for private and family life)

Students deserve to complete their education and be rewarded for their hard work.

Please show your support for Yashika and call on the Home Office to return to her studies.

this is just evil.

Did Yashika apply for asylum?

Edit: The student is currently being held in detention at Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre, Bedfordshire, after her appeal to stay in the UK was rejected

End of story really. She's not entitled to asylum and so not entitled to stay here.

She does not belong here and she was given a fair hearing. She should therefore be deported. Being a good student does not entitle her to stay in the uk
Why is she being deported?

Her application was rejected. If we sign a petition to keep her here, why shouldn't we keep everyone here?

She isn't special and it was decided she doesn't belong here. Tough.
I don't think it's possible to support this without supporting a free-for-all letting every illegal immigrant come in and stay.

It sounds like a sad story but you can't start treating everyone differently just because someone is popular at school or has good grades. That fortunately isn't how our legal system works, bringing emotion into it makes it unworkable.

Why is only she being deported if she arrived here with her family?

Because she is 18 and considered an adult
Nobody should be torn from their families and sent to backwards nations that they escaped from. There should be special circumstances given her achievements and being in education etc., to allow her to stay until at the very least, she has completed her education - then, they could consult with the family. Etc. etc. etc.

To simply send her 'home' is a disgrace.

Signed.
I would rather have hard-working people like her stay here than those who come in and do not learn the language, do not integrate and do not offer anything to the country.
I hope she is allowed to stay, will vote

Why would being in education mean someone was more entitled to stay here?

It is a cost to the tax payer. By the same logic special consideration should be given to those who arrive illegally then rock up for free healthcare, or any other form of benefit.

She, and her family are here illegally. They have shown no respect for our laws so why should we offer them anything?

Sounds like they entered the country illegally, not through proper asylum seekers channels. Now she's 18 she's had her status assessed and its been determined that she doesn't need asylum here. Why don't her family move back with her?

Everyone has their own personal story. You wouldn't deport anyone if you actually looked into everyone's individual circumstances.

Not everyone can stay.

No sorry she lost her appeal im sure she got a fair hearing

You make exceptions for one you have to make exceptions for all.

I'm wondering why her family aren't being deported alongside her though.
