Just thought I'd try my luck at meeting a few people online before I go to the university of York in September. Better than moving somewhere new knowing no one right? If you're already there or going in the new year let's get mingling

Hey! I'm insuring York so I'm not totally likely to be heading there, but it's still a possibility. Which halls are you thinking of applying for? For me it has to be Alcuin College, simply because it's a short walk from my subject department ^_^

Goodricke is right next to mine but it seems pretty quiet and out of the way. Iv been watching loads of YouTube videos trying to decide

To be honest, I wouldn't fancy the trek from Heslington West (or whatever the main campus is called) to Heslington East. I swear I've read somewhere you sometimes have to walk through a field to get between the two. Plus, I love the more modern accommodation of Goodricke.
I believe Derwent is the 'social' college, though. I got that impression on the open day. Someone in my economics class is firming York and is looking for accommodation there.

To be honest I think it would be best to be right across from my subject building. And you can be as social as you want to be I suppose. Although I haven't seen as much in the way of parties and things put on by goodricke as the other colleges. Can you go to other colleges arranged events?
Hey Which of the Colleges are you in, and how's the experience been for you thus far?
Hey! I'm in Alcuin at the moment in one of the standard ensuite rooms My experience here has literally been amazing! Everyone's massively friendly, the city is beautiful, the nightlife is pretty good and the uni is really supportive

I'm really looking forward to going just from the day I spent there I think I am going to be very happy. Do you think which college you go into matters? Or does everyone mingle around?

You're gonna love it for sure! I think it is an important choice because some colleges offer things that others don't. Like if you want somewhere really social, Derwent is a good place to go because it has 2 bars and a social reputation; whereas Alcuin doesn't have a bar, so it might be considered less social. But no-one is alienated because of their college! I think a lot of people get to know people through their subject and then subsequently spend time in other colleges meeting their coursemates :P

I study Medicine :P I actually haven't met a single nursing student here yet! :O There are lots of medics, chemists and biologists though xD
That's awesome thanks I think I'll socialise as much as is good wherever I go, maybe the quieter areas would be better for my studies but then again I haven't always made the smart decisions haha. How is the nightlife for people who aren't super big on clubbing? I'm more of the pub quiz, acoustic night sort of guy. I only live 40 mins away so I think some day trips are in order
