Computer Science offer holders

So, I have seen a lot of different threads about Law, Medicine, etc.

None for CS yet so how many people got their offers so far?

Feel free to introduce yourself.

I'm from Sweden (currently living in London). I firmed my conditional offer for Computer Science with Intelligent Systems.

Also who's attending the open day Wednesday?

Only 2 months to go till the academic year begins.

I've firmed an offer from KCL, for BSc Comp Sci with a Year in Industry. I've also met the offer condition, so barring anything drastic, I should be starting at King's this September!

Nice. I'm a home student. I live just outside of London, but will be staying in KCL accommodation for the first year. How about you? Where are you from, if you don't mind my asking?

No, no ask me anything. I am open to friendship.
Well I am from Pakistan and don't plan to live on KCL accommodation but on private.
I reckon you must be IB student, isn't it?

Ah, that's cool. I may go private in the second or third year. If by IB you mean International Baccalaureate, then no I'm not. I studied for a Higher National Diploma (HND) in computing, before applying for KCL.

Yeah I meant international baccalaureate. Ok that's cool.
Have you found anybody else up for the same course in KCL ? There seem to be quite less people around here for this course.

I've spoken to one other person who will also be doing the course with the year in industry. But I think that regardless of which specific Computer Science course we're doing, we'll all be going to the same lectures as everyone else, since we're covering the same modules for the first two years. So we'll have a chance to socialise with many people with similar interests.

I know, right? I'm excited too! It won't be a new country for me, but living in the heart of the city will be a new experience! As will living away from my parents for the first time.

Do you know if there is somewhere we can find the recommended books? Which ones are you interested in??

I may be mistaken about the way things are done in university, but I thought we would go to all of the lectures for our course. I didn't realise we could choose. Which Comp Sci course are you doing? Here's the structure of the regular 3 year degree, showing the modules: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/prospectus/undergraduate/structure/name/computer-science

I'm most interested in the programming modules (and accompanying seminars and lectures), including aspects such as Object Oriented Programming.

How about you?

This is the page for the Computer Science 3-year course. If you scroll down and click on an individual module, then towards the bottom of the module page, you will see either one or two headings called 'Required reading/resources' and 'Suggested reading/resources'. Those list the books and resources used on this course.

When I went to the open day, they said that because the first 2 years of the course are the same (or in some cases very similar), we can switch from one to the other. But they said it's important to notify them very early on that you wish to do that. If you're sure that you want to switch from MSci to BSc, you may want to email them now and ask them if it's possible for you to do it. They can hopefully give you advice on what to do.
