Aberdeen accomodation

Hi, I've got a place at Aberdeen uni for English, so I'm looking for reviews on the accommodation. I'll be 23 (considered a mature student) when I start and I would like to find somewhere a bit quieter and perhaps somewhere with people my own age. I don't know anything about the housing, expect that it's expensive ha ha. I'm looking at the ones on unite-student, but for cheapness, I'm open to ones on campus or in the village ect. Anyone know what Kings Hall is like? It popped up with the tag for mature students.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks in advance!

What are your preferences to catering and having your own bathroom?

Prefer to have my own bathroom, but other than that I don't have a preference.

Hi,

I was accepted as well and have firmed already so I am also looking at the accomodation. Here is a good comparision of University accomodation : http://www.abdn.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective-students/compaire-properties-64.php

You can see there that Elphinstone Road Flats are for mature students only so there will be more like you

I'll also be considered mature at the ripe old age of 22 (not old enough to be considered for means tested finance but old enough to be counted a mature student )

Kings Hall looks really nice, and is probably good if you're looking for somewhere quiet. This will be my second stint in university halls and last time I got shoved in with three people with very different tastes blasting very different music styles until 3am each night. Not good.

But I want to be able to socialise with my flatmates, have someone to meet up with etc, and therefore wonder whether undergrad halls would be better. I'm not bothered by having an ensuite so I'm thinking Hector Boece. That one is suitable for undergrads and postgrads so I'm hoping people will be a bit more like minded.
Will you be driving to uni? Cove is 5.5 miles away from campus i.e. a long walk or 2 buses there and back.
Keep in mind that 9am lectures are pretty common and a lot of the staff are now reluctant to post lecture slides/notes online as it encourages absence.
If you are driving and have a 9am lecture, you'll have to leave cove at 8am at the latest to make sure you make it through the wellington road/market street/king street traffic on time. The uni also only has 50 parking permits for students available. They do have daily parking vouchers you can buy, but any number of people can buy them and there are only 40ish spaces.

I'm not trying to put you off of the lovely accommodation, I'm just trying to make you think it through if you won't be driving/aren't familiar with the city.

On the other hand, I live very close to cove and drive to uni, so I'd be happy to car share if we had similar schedules.
Ah okay, my bad!

I don't know any personally, but I know there are pretty big communities of climbers in various places around the city. RGU have a massive climbing wall and Transition Extreme is all about climbing, bmxing, skating etc. I would recommend TE out of the two, simply because you're more likely to meet people there than you are at the RGU climbing wall.
I'll be happy to show you around a bit if you want?

So happy I read this! I am 21 and I'm looking at Hector Boece in the hope that I'm not surrounded hyper 17 year olds.
The University has a climbing and hill walking club "Lairig". You should check that out

Look on Meetup for Aberdeen groups.

Transition Extreme is place to meet other climbers. Lots of local climbs on Sea cliffs just south of Aberdeen too.
Plenty of places for Vegetarians to eat, ddon't worry!
