Is the City and Central accommodation (Opal 2) for sheffield uni okay?

I've been told to definitely apply for the Endcliffe Village accommodation, but the location of the City and Central accommodation seems perfect! Social life is meant to be better at Endcliffe, but is it really isolated at Opal 2?

Hi,
I lived in Endcliffe and honestly I wish I chose Opal, you are SO much closer to everything which makes life convenient. The only thing I would say is that it doesn't have as much of a 'party' atmosphere as the main part of Endcliffe Village but trust me after Freshers that won't matter to you much

Oh okay thanks, i'm not too bothered about partying that much, but i do want to meet new people, so i'm just worried that it's not very social and a bit secluded at Opal. But it is so much more convenient, you're right.
So it's just a matter of deciding what's more important now!

I wouldnt recommend either Opal block. The university is weird because it keeps international and home students mainly separate, putting home students in Endcliffe and Ranmoor, and internationals in Opals 1 and 2.

obviously theres nothing wrong with living with mostly international students, but from what I've heard from home students living in Opal, it can feel extremely secluded, as the language barriers are difficult, and often, international students arent particualrly interested in socialising.

I've been told by all people I know who were put in Opal 1 and 2 that they wish they'd gone to Endcliffe, because they often feel theyre missing out.
That said, its only a year, its only accomodation, and it is conveniently close to uni. So if you get put there, its not the worst thing that can happen!

Hi there!

I'm an international student, currently living in Endcliffe Village and I have to say, I'm loving it here! It's roughly 15-20mins walk to classes, depending which building you're heading to.

I wouldn't say you would miss out a lot in your social life if you choose to live in Opal 2 as Sheffield has a pretty good nightlife like Plug and Corp Night. The balance between home, EU and international students is pretty well balanced. I'm living with 5 other EU students from different countries and we get along really well, despite our differences

So I think you ought to based your preference on what sort of environment you'd like to live. Endcliffe has definitely got more activities and gives out the campus life vibe, but if distance is you priority, Opal 2 may be a better option.

Hope this helps!

just wondering if anyone can help me... I'll be studying psychology in September and was hoping to be in close walking distance to my lectures etc. Would City and cereal campus be the best accommodation? or is that not particularly close to psychology anyway?

Hi Kate!

The Psychology Department is not particularly close to any of the accommodations indeed, but I would still recommend Endcliffe. Although it may seem a bit further away than Opal 2 from the Psychology Department as you may see on Google Map, since you walk downhill from Endcliffe but uphill from Opal 2, it takes you around 20 minutes (depending on which part of Endcliffe you live in) to walk there from Endcliffe but it should be much easier than walking from Opal 2. In any event if you are in a hurry, you still have the option to take a bus from Endcliffe and arrive within minutes.

Hope this helps!
