The Student Room Group

Would I be eligible for Jobseekers allowance?

Hello, I'm a 20 year old with unconditional offers to start university in September of this year, and I'm currently looking for work to make some money before I start. Would I be able to claim JSA in the meantime knowing that I'll be a student in September, do I even have to disclose this to the job centre?

Thanks in advance for the help, don't want to waste time setting up a meeting at the job centre if I can find out the answer from someone here that's been in a similar situation.

I'd imagine you can as you aren't currently a student. I was able to claim it even though I had been offered a job before I started claiming right up until when the job started. I know it's not the same situation but fairly similar.

yes you can claim, because you are currently unemployed, and you are currently not a student. Just sign off the week before you start uni. No you don't need to tell them, and if you do, you are still entitled to job seek for temporary employment.
