Don't Cap My Benefits

Anyone who watched it, what are your thoughts about these people affected by the changes to benefits?

I did sympathise. (not influenced by my left-wing liberalist political views  )

This welfare reform should, hypothetically, have been an effective system to remove individuals off the welfare wheel, become independent and start working rather than being reliant on the government for basic survival needs. In reality however, panorama has given me the impression that it has increased homelessness from vulnerable groups and has had a social impact on children, who were, rather unfortunately, born into a life of poverty.

Having seen the documentary, I really don't think this reform will get those 'on the dole' back into work, as it is this section of society that are the least likely to be offered a job. That is mainly due to the competitive job market and the pressure from foreign migrants coming to work for less than the amount paid in benefits. All it will do is move or split families into more affordable homes while the increase of those remaining homeless or staying at cheap hostels perpetuates.

EDIT: I was quite surprised however that some 'British nationals' on the documentary did not fully grasp the English language after living here an odd 20 years. Ah well.

In China, that is perceived to be a delicacy.
Ironically the white woman was the most unlikeable (to head off the approaching racist opinions), but mostly it just seems like a situation of too many people in a country with too few homes and too few jobs to go around leading to these people at the bottom sort of getting shoved around a bit.

Does seem a bit like class-cleansing London but c'est la vie, I didn't vote for the Tories.

does that include politicians then?
I think if they really wanted to reform the system stop handing out child benefits after your first 3 kids.
Those who already have more will still receive it, but any future ones will not.
You shouldn't get paid £880 a week for 7 kids and causing over crowding, this isn't trucking sub Saharan Africa.
If that's not milking the system then what is.

Also it showed that we need to protect vulnerable people more, because a lot of them are being targeted at the expense of richer people, like that recent scum bag mp Maria Miller. If they gave those benefits that mps fradulently "mistakenly" claim to poorer people instead, at least they would suffer less.
Also I don't see the problem with building more houses on brown field sites, which families then have to contribute a bit towards from working, ie priotise those in work and help the working poor.

Many of these "scroungers" are actually in work just not paid enough. The government should help them more.
Evidence? That white lady who said i'm not sure if work pays.... that's not to say we should reduce benefits, but we should make living condition costs cheaper so people can afford to work instead.

And I mean build "Houses", not these huge ugly "apartment flats" that aren't family friendly.

Everyone needs a fair start in life if you disagree you are scum.

It just sort of re-inforced the anti immigration argument didn't it? Too many people, too few jobs, housing and services.

Benefits should just purely be rations, decent housing, heating and a bit of money on the side. That's it. The cuts are perfectly reasonable, people must work. One woman on there had not worked for 12 years. That is unacceptable.

And I can't believe people were turning down perfectly reasonable offers. That very same woman was complaining about the sitting room! Was she even serious?!

Immigrants should not be entitled. Only British citizens or those paying taxes in Britain for 10 year or more should be entitled. More houses need to be built too.

I know!! If she didn't want it, put her on the street or make a system where it's an 'order' and not a ration.

only really have sympathy for the larger families, purely because i feel bad for the kids, not the parents who shouldn't of had so many kids if they can't afford to raise them

But what about the immigrants who become full British citizens?

The best solution would be to reduce tax for those that are working in low paid jobs, so less benefits are needed for those who work. Those who unemployed are either a) sent on a skills course to work some place where there is a shortage or b) constantly pushed to work, even if it is minimum wage at sports direct. Those that can't work due to severe disability I sympathize with, and their benefits should be increased. Those who refuse to work, or have not worked/ studied for more than 2 years should be made to work at either a state institution (reintroduce workhouses), their own private employment or left to their own devices on the street if they refuse help.

Everyone should be given the chance, help and encouragement to work and build themselves a comfortable life. If they refuse this help, then they are a fool and should be made outcasts. It is a carrot and stick approach.

I agree that we need more housing, and a good start would be renovating brownfield housing, and the out of date housing that are falling into disrepair in many inner city's. Perhaps we could use a bit of the wasteful foreign aid budget to fund these projects.

Hopefull just before "Ducks, pornos and how to travel 100 metres for only 3p". I ****ing love ducks.
It was the same problem again and again.
a)Refusing houses.
Basically they Didn't seems to grasp the fact that if they could they could give you one in the borough they would. Its the general lack of affordable housing/rents
I live in Brent, I walk past the estate/letting agents agents.

The Girl was in year 9, she could easily have moved its not like she was in year 11 or something
b)Not having a job. The man clearly said if you have a job you wont be affected. One woman struggled to get a job when she had 3 children, idk how she thought having 5 would help. Obsv its gonna be harder to find housing for larger families.
c) Yeah the third one was having to many children, and then struggling to make ends meet.

I would agree with you on that apart from the first point. Immigrants who become citizens receive help once they are citizens or have been paying taxes for 10 years (whichever comes first)

I think a voucher system should replace money too.

I don't agree with this. Simply changing school and thus disrupting one's education isn't always an easy transition, and could have undesirable consequences in future academic years. School at all stages is significant, not just the year where an individual takes the exams (Year 10/11). The girl didn't overreact at all, and I sincerely hope she'll succeed.

As someone else mentioned, I sympathised with the children. Parents? Not as much. They should think before having 9 children. Who on earth would willingly have so many children knowing that they can not afford it? That is just beyond me.
