Law student caught selling crack cocaine

University fees may have trebled, and fees for the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) may be at record levels, but it's still not OK for law students to develop sidelines as dealers of Class A drugs as the tale of Brian Coughlan illustrates.

The police officers smelt cannabis on Coughlan, perhaps explaining his irregular road position, and accompanied him back to his student digs. In his bedroom, they found a locked safe, to which the law student who seems to have had a limited understanding of his legal rights handed them over the keys. Inside were more than 30 wraps of cocaine, weighing a total of 5.69 grams. In addition, a knife showing traces of cocaine was discovered, alongside cannabis, two sets of scales, two mobile phones, two iPhones, an iPad and £845 cash.

Amazing. He probably wouldn't have been doing too well in his law degree if he was spending all this time selling drugs and smoking pot. Actually, I rather enjoyed the judge's comments, it's almost like something out of reefer madness

Crack cocaine is a catastrophic blight on society. Those who take it surrender their free will and go on to live miserable lives. Nobody took the decision to sell crack cocaine by mistake.”

Just think... the world has been deprived of what could of been a highly mediocre probate or insurance solicitor. That's the drug war for you.

Atleast now he doesn't have to worry about obtaining a training contract, must be a relief.
If he wasn't such an idiot and didn't smoke his drugs then he may have pulled it off
I can understand students selling a bit of weed to their mates, but crack?

He was a law student but didn't know the police had no power to enter his accommodation and make him open his safe?

Could of avoided it all by simply telling them to come back with a warrant.

Tis true though haha, the police couldn't have forced their way into his accommodation and searched his room just because they apparently smelt cannabis on him in the street.

Like said something you would of thought a law student would of known.

Made me snort.
Hard luck for him, I guess he'll just have to deal.
Whereas the female version of this (stripping, escorting) is entirely legal. As it should be, but what else are men supposed to do to pay their way through the extractive higher education system?
So the guy was doing law but was stupid enough to let himself get sent down for dealing... One has to wonder how the police managed to persuade him to let them in AND then to open his safe, all without a warrant.

Then he topped off his stupidity by admitting to dealing!? He could of easily got away with simple possession and thus avoided doing time. "I'm an addict and i'm trying to cut down, i bagged my daily doses up separately in order to moderate". Boom, done.

From all my experience, it seems everyday people don't smoke crack, crack heads smoke crack. One must wonder again, what is a law student doing coming into contact with crack heads and why on earth did he choose to shift crack instead of cannabis or even normal nose candy.

Also 3 years (free man in 1.5 years) is a pretty decent sentance for dealing class A's, people have been sent down for double that for dealing cannabis.

This guy sounds like an absolute idiot, no idea of his rights!

And who even sells Crack? As a uni student I can understand some Weed or party drugs, but Crack? That's a bit heavy.

Exactly this, who in their right mind willingly brings themselves into contact with crack heads.

I can understand maybe shifting a couple of grams to people you know if you've got access to it, but actually dealing Crack? Hell nah, that's sketchy on another level.

Pfft, big ****ing deal. So what if he wants to sling that crack rock? He had to do what he had to do to get by. There are literally millions of drug dealers all around us, they've become an integral part of society, it's a problem that will never go away. Never.

That last statement in the opening post is completely ridiculous, it actually made me laugh. Catastrophic blight on society? Ha please. I can think of 50 problems that are affecting this society more than people who sling dope, that's quite low on the country's list of problems and priorities. Sort out your economy and booze problems first before you go around hassling dope boys.

In all honesty, can you blame the poor kid? but he could have dealt something far less fatal like marijuana. I laughed though 'seemed to have little understanding of his legal rights' looooool he was obviously quite shook if he couldn't use his legal knowledge to defend himself.
