Why do people care what other people do?

Scroll to see replies

Because we're all insecure *****.
Why do you think that thinking something someone does is weird etc means you care that they're doing it?

Personal value systems. Desire to conform. Fear of other in particular, since Other is a threat to your ego and one's understanding of oneself. To encounter the Other and embrace the unknown is to admit one's own vulnerability, the fragility of what were once concrete beliefs formulating comprehension, and the potential insignificance of the I in a sea of not-I.

What a load of ****!

That's really mean :frown: My mum's dad used to smoke, and when my mum's sister came home crying from a biology lesson saying "dad you're going to die" he gave up there and then

Sadly, she's the one who now has cancer. My grandparents feel really guilty, although they smoked before they knew the dangers of smoking

I used to think mum was going to drop dead. for the past 5 years she has been hacking and coughing constantly but refused to go to the Drs because 'they would just tell her to give up smoking'. Thankfully it has cleared up since the ecigs.

My dad gave up the day he found out mum was pregnant and never smoked another cigarette in his life.

Exactly
Then why is everyone discussing this useless ****?

We want to know WHY some people think the way they do. Are you incapable of analysing

At least she's sort of given up now.

I can honestly say I regret nothing. Everything I've done has made me who I am, and I wouldn't change any of it.

I also don't feel threatened by someone else being completely happy, and I wouldn't want other people to feel **** if I was feeling ****? Wtf? I also don't give a **** how other people dress? I also don't understand jealousy though, never felt it, so :dontknow:

I get your point, but to suggest everyone thinks like that is wrong. Some of us aren't so petty and childish.

Well we'll have to disagree then.
You seem to think I mean everyone walks around all day hoping everyone else f**ks up everything they do, and revels in others little failures.

I'm saying on a subconscious level we (apparently not you though) don't feel 100% satisfied with life, and we don't (subconsciously) want anyone else to be either.

It's why many people enjoy seeing celebrities fall from their great heights - After all, who wants to see someone having such a (seemingly) great life?

If a guy from back at school suddenly won big in the lottery, people are going to be jealous. They won't admit it, but you'll be able to notice it immediately when they discuss it.

And what will happen?
People will start criticising how they spend their money, or just criticising them in general. Because deep inside they fear that they'll now lead a better life than them and everyone else doing the usual 9-5.

They'll suddenly have an opinion. And that opinion, in my opinion  is based on feeling insecure.

I mean what is the point in attacking vegetarianism.

Well, demanding to be cooked something different when someone invites you for dinner can be irritating for obvious reasons.

True. And once we adopted my brother she never smoked in the house.

Because it's interesting to discuss human nature maybe.

Funny that you say people are entitled to an opinion, and then call this discussion "useless ****" and wonder why people are bothering.

Maybe because in their 'opinion' it's worth discussing?

It's because they're making the world a worse place. They're ruining life for everyone. You have to look at the bigger picture. Vegetarianism is a ridiculous joke. Mums should not stay at home, they should get out and seek employment even if they have to resort to selling themselves. It's extremely unladylike for a woman not to remove any hair where it shouldn't be. Just the mere knowledge that these types of people exist...just really gets on my nerves.

It makes sense, I guess I'm weird because I genuinely don't feel that? :dontknow: My mum doesn't either, we've discussed this before and we both really struggle with how some people seem to like it when bad things happen to other people.

I mean, I wouldn't even want something bad to happen to people I dislike :dontknow:

I think it's insecurity as too

One can be irritated by someone's habit without going to the lengths of not socialising with them... :s-smilie:

It's sad she did it around you. I think parents that smoke should do it away from their own kids

agreed.

My nose is now virtually useless as a result :frown: and everyone gets annoyed with me for chewing loudly...

You can't smell at all? Does that affect taste as well?
