The first thing I'm doing is a timeline of important events for each topic, keeping it brief with the date and name of the event. Then simply doing a mind map or notes in detail for each point of the timeline, I felt it really helped to organise everything chronologically and add detail in that order. Then, closer to the exams I will tests myself on names/dates and topics.
