DNA and genes

I'm trying to revise in-depth DNA and to be honest never grasped the basics can someone please explain to me:

-The details of cells cecontaining two copies of each gene from mother and father in normal body cells?
-How DNA is related to chromosomes?

I think it's all GCSE stuff but I would be grateful if someone could but it down to basics for me, Thanks :biggrin:
