bio unit 5 question

How does sensing a low external temperature cause a reduction in heat loss?

Saw this in my revision guide for bio, but it has no answers

Increase in metabolic processes (respiration etc) increasing heat production.
Contraction of skeletal muscles (shivering) so that there is more respiration and hence heat produced.
Vasoconstriction, and hair erector muscles contract, so hairs stand up to trap insulating layers of warm air.
