Women's sexual desire is just as strong and "ravenous" as men's

I would say true, or at least until they have snared a guy and had kids with him..

Oh yeah, women are definitely as horny as men, they are just more cautious.
Think it's probably true.

Previous research I've seen suggests the opposite:

I don't really see how women could have as high a sex drive as men when you consider differences in frequency of masturbation/viewing of pornography etc.

Certainly the supposed "evidence" in that Daily Mail article is questionable to say the least.

Absolutely ridiculous loads of books and other studies have shown how men have much more testosterone, which is mainly responsible for sex drive.I have seen a graph that showed that at ovulation a woman's sex drive is higher than men but generally a lot lot lower.

The whole women waiting for sex and rape being such a big crime wouldn't make sense if women had a large sex driver because they would want to have sex with virtually any man.Women have to have lower sex drives so that they can be more selective and find mates that will look after them through pregnancy because they would get very weak and would have been easily eaten up by a predator tens of thousands of years ago and evolution takes a long time to happen so these feelings are still present in females now.

However, the high sex drive of women when they are most fertile could make monogamy as hard for women as men.My sister does Psychology at University and has studied evolutionary psychology and agrees with these points and says that when women were fertile their sex drive increases to try and get women to cheat on a more attractive male so that they would get the best genes but still have a loyal man to look after them and keep them safe from predators.
I wouldn't say it's as high, because from an evolutionary point of view, that doesn't make sense. You've also got to take into account ovulation cycles, which totally change sex drives.

Mind you, I'm a horny little devil, so I can't really comment. :colone:

Could be argued that this is due to social conditioning. Women have always been treated and taught for that matter differently, when it comes to sex.

This sentence proves all above points about female sex-drive, I warrant.
I know quite a few girls who seem to have a sex drive as high as men or maybe even higher than some. Mines was higher than my ex bf's

Wouldn't exactly work when he finds out mind! His testosterone would be diverted to his anger drive...

In rare cases yes but across the whole gender no. And to be honest it's important that it's that way.

The fact that women don't have an equal sex drive to men means that we can have a society, because I know that if the women I see on the way to work had the same thoughts I did.... I would never make it to work.

Yea, all the self objectification with the 50 shades of grey book made this painfully obvious. You women suck at being discreet. What happened? did you watch too much discovery channel? saw the animals doing it and thought I'll have a piece of that action haha

At this point I don't think we can separate out innate vs. societal causes for differing sex drives. I think the attitude over boys vs. girls virginity is quite a clear example of society's influence over sexual behaviour

For the record this is why I don't like biology and other life sciences, far too many unknowns and uncontrolled variables during experimentation.

Why do you need to hide it? The only answer I can think of is Patriarchal society

Surely it's nigh on impossible to know. Individual differences, I'd imagine, vary hugely and there's no objective way of measuring 'horniness'; self assessment is obviously not going to work and number of partners or w/e wouldn't escape the social conditioning argument.
