Hehe, well I did q.1-3 so I understand those solutions, but I still don't really get the q.4 solution, but then again, only 3 people in country got it right! Now the guy in year 10, that's the sort of guy that gets on the team, brilliance from such a young age...(Original post by Bezza)
I was expecting 0 to be honest! I can't even understand some of the solutions they sent out with the results! A guy from my school in year 10 scored about 16 or 17 and has just been off to the IMO training/selection thing. -
I suppose you take the Irish Mathematical Olympiad then?(Original post by roxy potter)
im doing it in ireland. there are about two guys at training who know stuff and then everyone else just sits around looking confused. i know a girl who got two questions out in the exam and she came seventh in munster. -
He's amazing - he beat all the sixth formers in the SMC when he was in year 8. Also plays badminton for england I think.(Original post by theone)

Hehe, well his ability is very admirable, however frustrating it is that he is so good, he must have worked hard and been brought up well. He was lucky to qualify for BMO2 then, the cut-off mark was either 21 or 20 for prizewinners, perhaps because he is year 10...(Original post by Bezza)
Hero's not normally the word we use when we find out he's kicked our asses yet again (though I did beat him in BMO1 - much to everyone's delight!) -
I think his age was definitely a factor as he didnt win a prize but got invited to take part anyway. I've just found the IMO squad list and he didn't make it but he does still have another 3 years to try. On the subject of the prize, I was quite surprised with it as I would have expected it to be really advanced but it actually has a lot of very basic stuff in.(Original post by theone)

I imagine he will make the team in years to come no doubt, as long as he keeps working on it...
