Decent music has been replaced by the likes of Miley Cyrus and One Direction

How did this happen? Will music ever go back to being about talented people who actually write meaningful music?

It is cool how they get both versions of Harry to appear at the same time:

Bit of generalising going on there lol, a few annoying artists may top the charts but there is still plenty of good music out there
I like One Direction, Miley wouldn't be so bad if she kept her tongue in her mouth and her bum still
Inb4 justin bieber is amazing

Why don't people also criticise The Vamps?
What if I told you your niche heavy metal/indie/electronic etc was no more 'decent' than chart pop?

They haven't done anything 'wrong' yet in the eyes of society

What do you mean by this? The Vamps are just as **** and talentless as 1D.

Also worth mentioning 5 Seconds of Summer and Union J.

It's been like that really since the early 2000s
There's good music out there, you've just got to find it.

It's mainly about image these days.

Which "1D" fans can honestly say they would like their music if they were just average looking guys. They're not particularly talented and they don't really offer anything different.

There is a place for good music. Ed Sheeran is a good example of this. I don't even like his music, but I can see he is very talented and I understand why he is popular yet he is not the conventional attractive guy if that makes sense.

Music is a business, if you don't look or act a certain way, it's most likely you won't be heard, which is a shame.

Look at radio 1 and other commercial radio shows, none of the "DJs", even the specialists play their own music, it all has to be approved. It's just how it is...

Just go and find your music, the internet is massive.

I think Radio 1 doesn't deserve quite as much hatred as it gets.

If you look, there's actually a wider range of music than perhaps you might expect. It's not all autotune talentless crap.

I mean Catfish and the Bottlemen is hardly mainstream.
Don't understand the hate for One Direction. They're not even bad.

If you want good music, go out and find it instead of bitching about how **** pop music is. There's endless music streaming services available, so it shouldn't be too hard.

On another note, I find Radio 1 to actually be alright (as long as you listen to the later shows which are slightly more targeted than the morning stuff which is aimed at the general public, who apparently love Mikey Cyrus and The Vamps :colonhash:)

A bit unrelated, but I feel electronic stuff is getting linked in with pop culture now, just look at all the electronic songs that are hitting the charts recently (Duke Dumont, Gorgon City, Clean Bandit etc.) Just saying.
