Need help with sentencing guideline- whats the maximum sentence for this case

What sentence can a magistrate court impose on a 27 year old family man with previous criminal record who was charged with theft contrary to s.1 of the Theft Act 1968. Was refused bail and was then granted conditional bail following first hearing at the Magistrates court. Same person was seen in the shop where his bail conditions included an exclusion from the shop and surrounding town area.

I looked at this http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/s_to_u/sentencing_manual/theft_from_person/

because apparently the theft occurred in a shop and the victim was a elderly person and witnesses were involved.

And could the court consider the fact that he turned his life upside down due to his mother passing away at a young age and the fact that he drinks alcohol?

please help thanks
