Laptop for aero-mechanical engineering

Hi, I have firmly accepted my offer from Strathclyde for aero-mechanical engineering and as I am needing a new laptop I am wondering; would it be worth it to get a £1000 CAD capable laptop to do work in the halls? Is there really any requirement for it with the presence university network and is there really that much CAD work in the course? If the only time I would need it is in 4th and 5th year I would probably hold back on buying a super duper system until then and just get a decent one now.

Thanks
