The inverse may be true now, but that doesn't mean you deny Indians their rich history or shoot it down.

I feel like it is done to Indians in particular. Too many discoveries and turning points are not credited to Indians but to the European or Arab who rediscovered their work.

Yes, my knowledge of India is better than of other countries, naturally.

Yes, in an ideally designed study, you can have control groups, groups adopted by same race parents, groups adopted by different race parents (including white by black parents), and probably get a pretty good estimation of environmental vs genetic contribution from that data. I agree that you can't eliminate the variable of society treating people who are physically black differently from people who are physically white, though in my opinion in most societies there is little difference in treatment (and perhaps you can estimate this effect via a study on mixed race individuals who appear more or less physically black/white). IQ tests themselves aren't culturally biased; researchers have shown that black-white differences in the US are actually smaller on questions which have a cultural component.

Environment matters a hell of a lot. No one denies this. But genetics matters more than nothing at all, and its import increases as the environment becomes more homogeneous and affluent.


You've still got all the other social influences. The only real good test would be horribley inhumane, like taking babies from birth and sticking them in isolation, only communicating where you can't see their face. Although it could be argued races might naturally react differently to bizarre upbringings, in ways unrelated to intelligence.

I dunno about that, again it's a bit more complex. In America, most mixed race individuals identify as black, I've used the "Obama is half white half black" argument with them a few times, and they generally don't really see it. Whereas in South Africa, "coloureds" seem to be treated worse than blacks or whites.

But are IQ tests a good measure of intelligence? Even the guy who invented them said they shouldn't be used as a general measure of intelligence.

Maybe, but we're so far from homogeny, I'd say it's a problem for a later date.

With intelligence coming in so many forms, and the values of those forms so subjective, I'd suggest that if there is some racial variety there, it is unlikely to be "race a is better than race b in every intelligence measure", but more "race a is better at this, race b better at that", giving us specification trends that complement each other, implying that multiracialism produces the strongest and most healthy socities.

You'll notice most people who bring this up tend to assume their race has all the best qualities, while giving some "compliments" to others, like they are smart in a sneaky way, or they have oversized genitalia. Increidible coincidence.
I think it is due to upbringing and culture more so than genetics.

For example, look at children in South Korea, India and China - they are pushed from a young age to do well in education. Parents either push kids because they also did well academically (At my surgery an Indian family consisting of husband, wife and son all work together) or because they come from a poor background and want their kids to have better opportunities. Students there even commit suicides if they get B's! Over here in England people would celebrate lol.

I believe it's certainly possible. I don't have the information to be able to say one way or the other whether it IS true, but I'm certainly not going to say NO it definitely isn't, because it COULD be. There are differences between races, and theres no reason why intelligence couldn't be something that varies. Should it affect the way we treat one another? No, not at all, but I don't think we should blind ourselves to these possibilities just because we think it might encourage racism.

I call bulli****. The study was done in 1979 when black students would have been socialised in school differently to white students. Socialisation doesn't only happen at home: being treated differently in school would make a difference.

Have not researched this but i can say for sure that caucasean brits are a Joke the world over , people in usa ,canada china and japan etc find them to be the most boring squares in history. THE butt of all jokes
There's several areas of intelligence; no race is the best at all.
