Precipitates

If you react two solutions together, and for example they go from being colourless to white, does this mean a precipitate has formed? Or are precipitates only solid?

In general precipitate falls out of the solution. But sometimes it may happen that the solid is so dispersed solution just gets milky.

Okay thankyou, so for the reaction between CO2 and limewater, I know the solution goes milky, is this just due to the precipitate not settling?

Yes. If left for long enough it should settle down.
