Stupid medicine course question about foundation years... :(

What exactly is a foundation year? :/

Is it just the first year of studying medicine? It's not something extra if you're bad at medicine or didn't do an A-level in maths or something?

Sorry for being silly. :frown:

Here's the context:

"or a pass in the study-unit in Medical French as part of the Certificate in Medical Foundation Studies, prior to the commencement of the Course. "

Ahh please help! ;(

Foundation year Medicine is for those who did not study Biology and/or Chemistry A Levels, or those who have shown they are academically capable of studying Medicine (ie: A's at A Level, but not in the preferred subjects).

The foundation year is spent learning the basics of Chemistry and Biology. If you pass, you'll then be transferred onto the first year of the normal Medicine degree.

Thanks! So I'll have to take Medical French in a foundation year ugh... :frown:
If you're planning to study in France (or some other French-speaking country), a foundation year could have a different definition, but it sounds much as Revel said.
