Worried about uni

I'm wanting to study at uni but I'm not sure if it's going to be right for me or worth it. I am not a social person, I am very shy and introverted. I do not drink and have no interest in alcohol or partying or smoking. I also don't have any particular hobbies or interests, and would be still living at home if I did go. I just want to attend the required classes then go home, but I got the impression at open day this isn't feesible. Can you just do that? Will I lose out a lot with future careers etc if I don't go to uni?

Hello, I am hoping to do a Degree in September. I do not smoke, drink, and I am not really interested in partying. The main thing is that you have to try and talk to people even if you have nothing in common.

I am one of the quieter ones at college. However, I have learnt to adapt. I ask people how they are and take an interest their lives, hobbies, etc. I also do not take offence if they are in a bad mood and do not want to talk to me. I just leave them to it.

I sometimes find that I just say a few sentences and then someone else joins in the conversation. Then I am talking to two or three different people at once.

It is also important that if you are invited to go to somewhere like the cafe or to the library that you do not always turn them down. I have learnt that being invited to the cafe or to the library means that you have been accepted and they are trying to being sociable.

What career are you thinking about doing?

There are some jobs that you need a Degree and others where you can get an apprenticeship or maybe you could do a level 3.

Meh, I live at home and I don't really have time to go out all that much unfortunately, because I work as well as study. I pretty much do what you plan to do, go to uni for classes/library time and that's that. You only have to take part in as much as you want to. If for you, that is solely the academic side, then that is fine. I wish I had a little more time for societies, but I don't. I haven't struggled to make friends, even though I live miles from campus and don't take part in any clubs or anything. You'll be okay .
ofc you can bro, everyone goes to uni for different reasons and everyones experience is different

If you only want to to go to uni for classes then that's definitely possible. You don't have to take part in any activities. And it depends what you want to do, a lot of careers require degrees & experience but then others don't.

The best advice would be to make the most of this opportunity to take up some hobbies and socialising. You'll be very glad you did.
