Camp America 2015?

Hey, is anyone else thinking of Camp America for summer 2015...
I am but I'm also looking at Camp Leaders too, I've noticed that Camp Leaders application begins properly from June 1st but I'm starting mine now as it is open. Only problem here is that it's asking me when I'm free from and I have no idea because I don't know when my last A2 exams are! Is it too early to apply? And if we don't find out our exam dates until the next academic year will this be a problem for Brits applying?!
Thanks

Hi there!

I'm going to be applying for 2015, but I'm 95% sure I'll be going through Camp America because of how established it is and because someone I know has gone through them and said it was completely organised, and he was placed very quickly despite applying late  I think Camp Leaders is the only one that opens so early so I was tempted to go through them!

I'm Scottish and at uni so I luckily don't have that problem, but I can only suggest looking at when exams have ended for the past couple of years and next year probably wouldn't be too dissimilar? When do your exam dates get published?

Its pointless. I applied this year and I am so glad I havent been placed, the amount of hidden costs is horrendous!

Which company did you go with?
Hi!

I'm going to summer camp in exactly 43 days! I originally applied with Camp America but cancelled that application and went with Camp Leaders instead. I'm sure Camp America is a fantastic company but I personally was drawn towards Camp Leaders for various reasons.

I honestly couldn't fault the service that Camp Leaders has provided. In terms of help and support with the application process, they were nothing short of amazing. HOWEVER, there are a LOT of costs you incur that I wouldn't describe as 'hidden' but do add up. If you are on a tight budget, you may want to add up every cost you could possibly incur during the process. That includes your actual application to Camp Leaders (which includes insurance, visa, flights etc), medical form charges, travel to interviews/visa appointments, any clothes equipment you may need, costs of travel after camp etc. Another thing worth mentioning is that even if you pay every fee required and get your visa, you aren't technically guaranteed a place at camp. As far as I'm aware, it's a minute percentage of people who aren't placed and you get (almost?) all your fees reimbursed but that's something to bear in mind.

In terms of dates, people start going to camp from 1st May onwards though from the people I've spoken to, it's more commonly around June. You can change your availability really easily on the website so maybe use an approximate until you have your summer exam timetable for next year.

If you have any other questions about the application process or camp in general, I'd be happy to answer!

I'm placed at a traditional private camp in Connecticut
There were a few reasons, really. They really push the fact that your flights are included which, at that time, the flight was the part I was really apprehensive about so this was really attractive to me and Camp Leaders tend to pay slightly more pocket money whilst you're out there. Also, Camp Leaders are affiliated with the ASA so as a swimming specialist, this played in my favour.

I'm sure the main organisations (Camp America, Camp Leaders, CCUSA and Bunac) are pretty much all near enough equal. I've heard good and bad things about all of them.

Good luck with your application!

They definitely sounded like the best option for you! I'm not really a specialist in anything but have a few general skills so I'm leaning towards Camp America because so many camps find counsellors through them so hopefully there's more chance that one would want me haha  You're going to have most incredible summer!
Hey, im 17 next summer and i am looking for some where to apply to but i cant find anywhere that takes on 17 year olds. can you help?

Unfortunately, you won't be able to go. It isn't a case of which camps will hire you but that you have to be 18 years old by June of the year you are applying to be eligible for the US visa which allows you go to camp. Sorry!
Hi,

I've been looking at Americamp, it seems the cheapest, has anyone ever been with them? And I've heard that sometimes camp counsellors have to do everything for the kids (make their beds, pack their things, etc) and that they can often be quite spoilt? Is this true?

I'm also looking at Americamp!
Americamp seems to be the best option, but your flights aren't included (which could be up to £500 extra!) In that case, in the uncertainty of the flight price, I'd rather go with a well established organisation like Camp America which has your flights paid for at a fixed price. I'm unsure on applying though

What are the flight prices with Camp America?

I'm not entirely sure, they're covered in the final price that you pay though. CA fees are here: http://www.campamerica.co.uk/what-you-pay-first-timers/what-you-pay/6

I'm looking I to Americamp too, I've had a few emails and phonecalls from them. The thing about camp America is that it's mostly based on looking for leaders with a desired view in sport...

I really want to apply for Camp America for summer 2015, but my last A2 exam is around about the 20 of June. which is going to be a problem since Camp America requires you to be free from May-June. So, I was thinking about going with the company AmeriCamp because you book your own flights. Therefore you have the option to be more flexible with dates. but the major downside to AmeriCamp is that you have to organise your own way from the airport to the camp. (which could be disastrous) :frown:
Is anyone else having this problem? or has anyone been with either company and could offer some advice? Help would be greatly appreciated.
Working in America at a camp is something i have always really wanted to do, and summer 2015 would be the best time for me to do it!
