Financial mathematics - some questions

i've looked at lots of uni courses and i think financial maths is the one i want to do. i'm going to be applying at nottingham, loughborough, manchester, leicester and leeds to do either a mmath/bsc in it. (preference to the courses with a placement year)

some questions though;
-how respectable is it in comparison to a pure maths degree?
-is it likely to be a good degree to start a good financial career (providing i get WE, placements, etc)
- is there a lot of versatility in future careers?
- if i self-teach a lot of FM since it's too late for me to take it at school, will that be viable or is it not worth it since they teach it at the uni?
- what's the difference between the mmath and bsc for it?
