He basically says that he speeds up his car when he drives through gay districts.

Replace gay districts with black districts and I can guarantee that this would be all over the mainstream press and he would probably be disqualified from the contest.

That'd be so ironic, I mean it's Eurovision. it's basically concentrated and condensed camp that is then pumped through the air-waves!

Yes, but on the flipside, southern and eastern Europe is much more religious and much more 'traditional'. If anything, those kind of comments could increase someone's popularity in those areas.
