OP, you need to post the full question before anyone can help you. "the answer is the square root of 3p^9" is meaningless unless we know what the question is.

Do you mean "what is the square root of 3p93p^9
If so use the facts that (ab)=a×b\sqrt(ab)=\sqrt a \times \sqrt b
and xp=(xp)12=xp2\sqrt x^p=(x^p)^\frac{1}{2}=x^{\frac{p}{2}}
